Chemring Energetics has a long established expertise in propellant technology and the specialised design, development and manufacture of gas generators to provide power for a wide range of mechanical actuation purposes. Gas Generators are self-contained units specifically designed to meet customer requirements and are capable of withstanding the full pressure without the aid of a pressure supporting breech. They can either be electrically or percussion operated.
Ignition
The ignition is designed to match the specified initiating signal. Electrical ignition can be from currents ranging from 0.1Amp to 4.0 Amp (in a 1 amp 1 watt configuration), with Rad. Haz. (filter) protection built in if required.
Main Charge Ballistics
A wide range of both cast and solventless extruded propellants has been developed by Chemring Energetics for use in gas generators. Typical operating times vary between 25 milliseconds to 250 seconds with operating temperatures in the range of -32 o C to + 60 o C. Specialised propellants can be incorporated to extend the temperature range from -54 o C to +150 o C.
Typical gas generating mass flow rates are from 3g/ sec up to 100g/sec and in many applications they can provide operational benefits over cold gas systems.
Typical Applications
Chemring Energetics gas generators are used in a wide range of applications which include:
- Fluid Displacement
- Liquid Fuel Igniters
- Pressurisation of hydraulic power supplies
- Ejection Release Units
- Buoyancy Devices
- Missile Ignition Systems
- Missile Fin Actuation
- Missile Gyroscope Energisation
- Inflation of fabric structures
