Power Cartridges

Chemring Energetics has a long established expertise in propellant technology and the specialised design, development and manufacture of power cartridges to provide power for a wide range of mechanical actuation purposes.

Power Cartridges, designed to specific requirements, provide power in the form of hot gas and must be loaded into a supporting breech within the overall weapon system that is designed to safely contain the high pressures generated. Power Cartridges are ideally suited for systems requiring a fast loading facility

Ignition

The ignition is designed to match the specified initiating signal. With electrical ignition this can be from currents ranging from 0.1amp to 4.0amp (in a 1A1W configuration) with Rad. Haz (filter) protection built-in if required.

Main Charge Ballistic

Chemring Energetics' well proven range of cast and solventless extruded propellants is available as main charge propellants. Typical operating times are from 0.01 seconds to 10 seconds with operating temperatures from -32oC to +60oC although specialised propellants can be incorporated to extend the range from -54oC to +150oC. Typical power cartridges mass flow rates are from 5 g/sec to 2 kg/sec.

Typical Applications

  • Bomblet Dispersion
  • Aircraft Ejection Release Units
  • Cartridge Starting Engines and Turbines
  • Decoy Dispersion
  • Missile Gyroscope Energisation
  • Explosive Ordnance Disposal Systems

Power Cartridges can be developed as special devices to meet customer requirements. To discuss your requirements please contact our sales and marketing department.
